It is not essential, but a lot of people feel they would die without it: Fashion is exiting, fashion seduces and fashion inspires great works of design. In our January issue we dedicate 13 pages to fashion and present amongst others projects from Mexico, Canada and the US. And to match the topic we experimented with an embroidered cover.
It is common to embroider fabrics, bags or shoes, people have done so for quite some time. It’s rather different however, when it comes to paper. Stitched covers and brochures are the result of handcraft and are usually limited to a few copies. For he first time novum magazine now managed to produce an automatically embroidered cover with the same machines and the same techniques used in fabric processing. Since paper is much more susceptible to mechanical pressure, a lot of tests and fine tuning were necessary. However, thanks to the expertise of our partners (Gotteswinter/Aumaier und Nagl Papierverarbeitung) we were able to realise an embroidered cover, on which print finishing and design (Marco Langguth) form an appealing unity. The paper too plays with the notion of fabrics and fashion, we used Savile Row Tweed Camel by Fedrigoni. More about embroidering papers in this issue.
