Tattva - Gourmet Seasoning

Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2016 Semifinalist

Spices, in Indian markets, are sold loose and unbranded. Branded spices are sold pre-ground, in bottles or packets. Both sources are capable of having lost potency, or having traces of adulteration. Therefore, we wanted to create a packaging solution for spices such that they wouldn’t lose potency until the moment of usage. This is important to protect the incredible culinary heritage of Indian spices.

This packaging solution is a grinder bottle that contains whole spices, making sure they retain 100% of their flavour.

Tattva is the result of this packaging design project done by a team comprised of Sneha Mehta and I.



The form of the top half of the grinder is inspired from the twisting action involved in using a grinder.
 
The secondary packaging includes a '3 in 1' table-top display stand which comes in a simple tin can. The process of removing the grinder bottles from the display stand is also inspired by the twisting action of using a grinder.

 Tattva was selected for display in a museum dedicated to innovative packaging, in Parma, Italy.
