Despite the constant development of technology, one of the major challenges for sea travel is limiting the negative impact of the marine environment on the welfare of the passengers and the crew.

 

Typical monohull vessel swings on water and as a result causes seasickness. However, patented in 1938 SWATH (Small waterplane Area Twin Hull) hull design type significantly reduces the so-called waterline which provides incredible stability, even on the high seas and at high speeds, thus providing passengers with unique comfort. Despite its obvious advantages SWATH hulls only recently became widely used in the construction of ships.

In functional matter, the design is a ferry 32 meters long, created for 125 passengers and 5 crew members, dedicated for the route Gdańsk-Szczecin. It is intended to serve as an addition for public transport. The ferry design includes a space for luggage and up to 24 bicycles.

 

General arrangement of the ship, besides fulfilling the fundamental safety requirements according to SOLAS convention, has been optimized to provide the passengers with fast and secure communication to and from the ship. Optimization of the communication also plays a  role in the organization of the embarkation process and at the same reduces the length of stay in the harbors. In addition, lines of communication have been concentrated in the midship area, in the place where the marine evacuation system is located.

In the aesthetic aspect project is an attempt to find common stylistic denominator between the unique architecture of the hull and SWATH ferry superstructure. The form of the ship has a stylistic consistency and clear logic in building individual shapes. The direct relationship between architectural form of the ship and its functional arrangement creates but also determines the appearance of the whole design, which despite the diversity remains complete and uniform. The design of the ferry is complemented by interiors and details  that provide it with a timeless “yacht” visual character.
