Grande Miniera di Serbariu
Sardegna, Italia (2011)
The Mine of Serbariu is one of the several coal mines located in Sardegna, in a region called Carbonia due to the intensive extraction of coal over this area.

Activated officially in 1939, the Mine of Serbariu became one of the most important ones in Italy and represented for several years an important source of coal. During the exploration, the pits reached 179 meters of depth. Later, after the 50's, the mine started to become unnecessary due to the reorganization of the mining sector and the entry of Italy to the European Coal and Steel Community, and ended up by closing in 1964. Today this mining area houses the Museum of Coal.
