3D CV
personal project // my CV, in 3D form
Moving away from the standard two-dimensional sheet of paper, 3D CV aims to abstractly demonstrate who I am and allow people to dynamically discover what I'm passionate about.
// the brief
3D CV originates from a brief I was set during the process of applying for a summer internship in 2015.
The task was to produce a physical CV that represented myself alongside displaying my passions and skills. Most importantly, 3D CV enables me to showcase my innovation and creativity in action!
// the solution
3D CV is a physical and dynamic CV, a platform for an individual to express their personality, skills and character.
The product takes inspiration from the flatpack ethos of a certain Swedish based furniture retail company, alongside a strong focus on personalisation. As such, 3D CV can be assembled into it’s angular form using no external fixings or adhesives.
Each side of the 3D CV presents a certain component of the person, including Personal Profile, Work & Education, Skills & Interests and Beliefs & Values.
There are four square windows on each side to present personal content. Treat each side as a blank canvas: it's up to the individual on how they would like their 3D CV to represent them.
// manufacture
3D CV is produced using the laser cutting process to ensure that the intricate details and dimensions of each side are accurate. The tracks that hold the flash cards are then glued by hand.
// personalisation
The flash cards can be personailsed to include informal descriptions and images in relation to personal profile, interests and character. During a presentation or interview, the flash cards are inserted into their relevant positions on each side of the 3D CV, with their contents made visible by the square windows.
The cube can also be rotated as the interview progresses, presenting the topics in an engaging and dynamic manner.
As the flash cards are interchangeable with infinite content possibilities, 3D CV can be adapted to a wide range of interview situations and presentation environments.
// assembly instructions
An instruction manual compliments the 3D CV, with a purposeful step-by-step method that illustrates how to assemble the flatpack product.
The illustrations of 3D CV were initially modelled using the computer-aided design package Solidworks, before exporting the drawings to Adobe Illustrator. The booklet was then arranged using Adobe InDesign.
// packaging
The 3D CV can be dismantled, flatpacked and then transported in takeaway style packaging. This was partcularly useful for taking my 3D CV on board a plane on route to my internship interview!
If you are inspired to make one for yourself, I can produce the 3D CV to order! Give me a shout and we can sort something out.
