Dallas High-Rise Condos
The completion of an abandoned structure in downtown
I completed this building in my graduate program in the summer of 2011. The project was to complete a high-rise hotel located beside the Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas that had been abandoned the previous due to financial complications. The foundation, first four floors, structure were already in place restricting any major moves. The objective was a study of basic floor plan layouts navigating around columns (a common dilemma) as well as the completion of the exterior previously started.
I changed the layout of the original first three floors with all the public spaces offered by the hotel (pool, restaurant, gym, bar). I also changed floors four through sixteen which were the standard hotel rooms designed to attract the business couple demographic. For floors seventeen through twenty, I layed out the rooms to attract the business single demographic. For the top floor, I added everything a penthouse owner would ever want: double vaulted living space, personal pool and hot tub, personal gardening space, as well as a workout room inside. The floor has two seperate penthouse suites which share a helicopter pad.
Overall, it was an enjoyable project and taught me spacial arrangement and creative ways to build around existing structure.
