During the time I worked for the publishing group Lowveld Media it was the task of Graphic Designers to create advertisements advertising Lowveld Media and calling for advertisers. These type of adverts were called "fillers". The reason for the name, was due to the fact that they were placed last minute into the publication just before it was sent through to print (usually because an advert got pulled due to financial issues or errors). I really adored to design these, because we were given carte blanche with the design and copy. Anyting you could think of & it got printed. It allowed some creative freedom & play. I wrote my own copy and used my own illustrations. In instances where photos were used, I used stock photos from our library at the studio.
