PRESENCE OF ABSENCE

A culture of a city can be portrayed by the social habits of the people. To me, this means that the presence and absence of interaction within the people is able to show the culture of Singapore. In this modern society, due to the rise in technological usage, aging and other factors, Singaporeans are becoming increasingly isolated socially. Every interaction, action and reaction requires the presence of people, while the absence of people, whether physically or emotionally, causes the lack of contact and interaction.

Presence of Absence is a concept that focuses on how there is an absence of social interaction present in Singapore. This concept aims to raise awareness on the issue of social isolation as a reminder of the importance of interaction.
Presence of Absence will deal with portraying spaces and scenes that visually show the idea of social isolation. For example, this could be seen through the use of empty spaces that are meant to be spaces for interaction; how spaces which are present shows the absence of people and interaction.

The colour used for this concept would be gray scale to enhance the idea of duality and how presence and absence, which are opposites, could work together to intensify the idea of each other.
A video was produce for the conceptual publication.
