Industrial Design
Project Summary

Samsung, a leading company in the electronics industry is well known for their advanced technologies and user friendly experiences. The market as well as consumers focus on the technical specifications of a product not the design. Electronics industry is shifting very rapidly, products with good design are at some point thrown back in to memories of the past.

I wanted to develop products that withstands the passing of time. The strong design languages that come from scandinavian design companies have been loved for a very long time. Norman Copenhagen’s designs are extraordinary, with designs that withstand the test of time. Samsung has been working on ‘Timeless Design’ as a project for their electronics. I felt Norman Copenhagen could be a great inspiration of an electronic product, so I started this project with my colleagues.
The Perfect Spot

Kitchen creates the most indoor air pollution during the day. Kitchen has always been the perfect yet a troublesome place to locate an air purifier. The kitchen is very crowded. The cook’s footprints are very complicated, busy from handling the ingridients to frying with an oven. Placing an air purifier on the floor distracts the footprint of a cook.

Another issue was that all sorts of cooking wares, dishes, tables from all kinds of brands fill the kitchen. The languages of an air purifier does not match with the surrounding objects.
Inspiring Shapes

Although, the kitchen is crowded with all kinds of products from other brands. I witnessed that they share a similar language with each other. I thought the core essence of kitchen design come from the accessories. The strong yet smooth character lines of scandinavian dishes, plates and vases were really inspiring and I tried to melt it on to the design.
Delivering Concept

Norman Copenhagen focuses on challenging conventional thought through innovation. The challenge was melting the air purifier into the kitchen environment. We thought air purifier in the kitchen should not disturb the line of flow of a cook.

I thought the main problem of an air purifier is that it is placed on the floor, distracting the line of flow of the cook. The boxy design of the care product does not share looks with its surroundings. I thought, that changing the place of where it should be put is the core issue. I propose a new portable, wireless air purifier for handy use.

Belyse is an air purifier that supports the user’s dining experience from cooking to dining and after meal.
CMF / Details in Finishing

Using the fabric material, parting line is necessarily made on the point where the ends meet together. Water gage is an essential detail of a humidifier, by placing the water gage in between the parted lines, it created function as well as perfection in finishing.

I thought the vent holes on the side face of the air purifier was the details that made it look like an electronic product. Air vent is hidden below dust proof fabric to escape from the looks of an electronic device.
Modular Air Solution

Belyse is designed as a modular air purifier for multi use scenarios. The upper module functions as an air purifier on its sole. When joined together with the lower module, it intakes the air passing through the water tanks to function as a humidifier.

When joined together the upper module is wirelessly charged through the meeting metal surface.
Complete Care

Belyse cares indoor air conditions from preparing of a meal to eating, and after meal.
