This was an idea I created for an app that would allow consumers to reduce the amount of food waste they and their families produce. When researching into what had been created before to combat this problem, I noted that many of the previous ideas focused upon reducing waste by finding ways of using food that had been left over in creative and imaginative ways. With my solution I wanted to reduce food waste at an earlier stage when people create shopping lists to decide what they will buy either at the supermarket or online.

With the Stocked Up app, consumers would be able to create a food plan for their entire family that would allow them to input personal data to calculate the quantity of each provision they would require for the coming week. By sticking to this plan the app would calculate whether something should be added to the shopping list or not, and thus consumers would only buy what they needed. By scanning the items barcode when bought, they would be automatically added to the stock list within the app along with information like use by dates and go even further to reducing the chance of food being wasted.
