TRON: Gridlock
This concept utilizes the narrative-based storytelling technique as a means of communicating an amusement park experience.  This attraction focuses on a unique backstory based on the [then] upcoming sequel to the TRON film franchise.  A rich background was developed so that concepts from the already-established World of TRON could be introduced, providing a contextual framework and point-of-departure for the attraction storyline.

It is the year 2010, nearly 30 years since the notorious Encom disaster.  CEO Edward Dillinger has rebuilt Encom under a new brand, Innotron Industries, and has reborn the company at a new state-of-the-art headquarters located in Tomorrowland, at Disney's Magic Kingdom.  To celebrate the grand re-opening Innotron is inviting park guests to test-drive a new never-before-imagined interactive video gaming experience.

Unwitting guests are drafted as Innotron's latest test subjects, but may be in for more excitement than they bargained for when a menacing, rogue computer program sabatoges the experiment and digitizes them into the computer world.  Guests embark on a harrowing, high-speed virtual chase through the World of TRON before finally escaping back to reality.

This project was conceived by students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and created for the 2010 Walt Disney Imagineering ImagiNations Competition.

This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are property of Walt Disney Imagineering.

The competition is a way for students to showcase their talents and for Disney to identify new talents
