Hitchhike is a native mobile application across the android platform which aims at helping seekers find rides locally, to not just assist them for a cheaper mode of transport but also do a bit in saving fuel, reducing vehicle pollution and road congestion.
The application shall work both ways for the users : One may choose to offer a ride to others or opt to hop for a shared ride. Users will login via Facebook, G+ or through their email-id. All first time users shall have to create their profile. Their personal details and their vehicles registered with the app shall be verified to ensure safe rides. The app will share the details of the person offering the ride with the co-passengers.
The seekers can choose to travel safe with only their friends/acquaintances. The application offers exclusive rides for women co-passengers only. One may have the option of booking for more than a single seat for a particular ride.
One may browse through profiles before making a choice of picking up a ride. The ride route shall be shown as well. The users can also rate the ride owner. These ratings shall create a sense of credibility for seekers. The application will also have a history of all previous rides.
The payment shall happen offline as well as using online wallet. The ride owner shall define per seat price of the ride at the time of creation of the pool.
While the whole idea of sharing rides makes journeys cheaper for co passengers, the person who offers rides earns points for each trip which can be redeemed across certain stores. This is to incentivize the ride owner.
