This project explores individual interpretations of emoticons, the faces made by punctuation marks in text messages and internet chats. I am fascinated with the increase of technology that characterizes communication; to connect to someone over networks or back-lit illuminated screens is the norm today, not the exception. Though it is seemingly impersonal, technological communication does have people behind each line with distinct personalities and expression. The resulting images give a peek into the “Y” Generation dominated by social networking, exploring the people behind the keyboards, numbers, and letters on the other side of the screen.
