Roof Story - Athens, Greece

In a time of the ever-growing city metropolis people try to find alternative and collaborative ways of living and working.  When there is no longer a vertical way to expand (in Athens buildings by law have a strict height limitation), rooftops offer the possibility to find new functions and uses. The flat rooftop is a common phenomenon throughout Mediterranean cities like Athens, where the different levels of the skyline offer a variety of functions and create a new urbanity.
How many new functions can a simple rooftop provide?  Beyond being used to dry clothes in the wind they can offer ample opportunities for things such as a living in a uniquely designed extension, setting up renewable energy systems, leisure activities like rooftop bars and hotels, luxury pools, expanded community spaces, urban vantage points and even gardening and/or farming.
Being on a rooftop takes one away from the city’s congested streets and allows the eye to wander a spectacular horizon.  This unique space found throughout Athens reveals a colorful city in the sky.
