Liz Lim: Personal Branding

About

As someone who loves to illustrate, I’d like to incorporate illustrative elements into my personal branding and identity. I find that the art of hand-drawn illustration appealing as it is a very natural and organic way to designing visuals. As such, I’ve decided to push towards the art direction of expressing illustration and nature, the two loves of my life, into something that represents me.

I’ve decided to go a style that is casual, bold and energetic. I’ve decided to first start my logo using my nickname and my usual way of writing, the handwritings are scanned and vectored using illustrator. This is the same for the drawings of the plants of which i’ve decide to explore on to see which would be a potentially interesting design element. As I enjoy creating both traditional and digital illustrations and designs, I’ve decided to incorporate both traditionally and digitally drawn elements together into my project.

I’ve settled on the illustration of simple plants as it references the my sirname Lim/Lin which in chinese means “forest” and first word of my chinese given name, Ying, which means "head of grain. The colours are chosen because of their relevancy to rice. The off white is that of the colour of ricesacks while the blood red colour, like rice, is also a representation of abundance, happiness and contentment in Chinese cultures.
