This Tie Fighter form Star Wars was one of my favorites I did for class over the last year. Until then all my other drawings were trying to achive realism using pain brushed in photoshop- which is fun, but this vector style opened some new doors for me.

For the project, we had to create a movie poster. I was not happy with the final product, but I liked how the tie fighter came out. I was never into cartoons, especially anime, until late last year. I saw this animation of Star Wars done in 80s anime stlye and it was one of the most inspiring thing I've ever seen. Since then I have been moving my artwork in that direction.

For this Tie Fighter, I did the complete piece in Illustrator. I took screengrabs from the linked video and used different frames to do get the visuals I wanted. most of this was done with the pen tool. What I really liked was the tone and shading of the piece. Otaking, the original artist of the video uses a five shade blend when doing his pieces, which is much more than the typical anime style. This gives it a unique look and much more detail.
