The first word I chose was "fire". Working with my mind map, I came up with a few ideas of how to visually represent this word in an illustration. Though I explored several ideas in my preliminary sketches (a burnt sketch, an actual representation of fire and flames, and then composing the word of matches), I really wanted to focus on the effects fire can have on an object and decided to have the final design be a scorched, smoking wreckage of the word "fire".
The second word I chose was "movie". The three sketches I created initially focused on a film strip, a projector and screen in a theater, and then I tried to represent the horror genre of movies by adding iconing horror imagery. For the final design, I decided to complete the film strip idea as I felt it was the best representation of the word visually.
