MoreWater - Social Design

Social and simple design made for the base of the pyramid.
Low cost, high functionallity, easy manufacturing process.
Using standarized materials and water tanks, reduces
collecting water time and frees time for other activities.

All the design process was made with data from a community called Martina Bustos, in the city of Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. But the solution of this project is scaleable, so this could be used for solving the same problem in different places of the world.

This is my Industrial Design Engineering Grad. Project.

People in Martina Bustos Transport and Storage the water in buckets and tanks, using homemade trolleys.
They have to do 1- 7 trips to transport the buckets, lasting almost 4 hours each day, each family.

There are 700 families in Martina Bustos.
In Costa Rica, each person uses 180 L daily.

Each Person living in Martina Bustos uses 26,6 L of Water by day (Including shower use, drinking and cooking, and personal higene).

That's 14,7% of water compared to the use of a regular person in Costa Rica.
Basic materials founded at any hardware store, this cause the more common the materials are, more scaleable and adaptable the project is.
The hose gets into the tank for an easy manual pumping without moving the tank.
If there is a ramp for the wheels, the tank and the structure could be always together and ease up the transport because there will be needed just one horizontal force to move it, and no need to leverage the tank.
Working with simple manufacturing tools like an Angle Grinder, a Steel Bending machine and a Welding machine made the process adaptable to different places of the world.
If the family have their own 120L tank, they didn't need to buy a new one.
