MOME 356 - Data Visualization/Tracking

IN CLASS ASSIGNMENT
MOME 356 - Compositing for Motion Media. Our assigment was to create a short clip using live action with the addition of tracked 2D and/or 3D elements. The concept could be anything from raising awareness, to a recipe, or explaining the function of an object, etc.
My idea was simple, take video of my friend riding his bike up and down the street a couple of time. To film it I attached a GoPro Hero4 Silver to the rear of the bike (using the clamp mount) and had him ride up and down the street a few times. Then I moved the clamp to the handle bar and had him ride some more. While he was going up and down the street, I had a second GoPro Hero4 Black shooting 240fps on a tripod. This camera was catching him everytime he drove by. I figured 240fps is equals to 8 seconds(at 30fps) of slow motion footage for every 1 second he is in frame.

After filming I took all the footage and edited a video together using Premiere Pro. The video was then imported into After Effects where I used shape layers and mask to create all the assets. The data presented above the speed and below the key are mainly for looks and do not represent any actual data. The RPM on the right side was created using a slider effect that was key framed to what I could visually see. After the data was created, it was tracked and masked for the final look.
