Arabica Coffee Bags for the UAE

Hand Sketched Illustrations

Three illustrations were chosen. The first two abstractly depict the Arabica tree that produces the fruit of the coffee beans which are characterized by their cherry red color, accompanied by pure white flowers. The third one depicts the Emirati "Dallah" which is the name given to their famous Arabic coffee pot. All illustrations were done by hand using markers, water colors, a correction pen and soy sauce for the backgrounds.

Final Outcome

Three different bags were designed for the three states of the coffee beans : Dark Roast - Medium Roast - Light Roast.

After conducting research on the characterstics of the coffee beans and the kind of packaging they need for conservation and storing, it was decided on the best material suitable for the job :
 - Kraft paper for the bag itself, as it protects from grease, oxygen, and is good for printing.
 - A one way Degasing Valve, that lets out the air inside and keeps it from getting in, thus protecting the beans from any  chemical reactions or humidity, and keeps the bag from exploding due to the large amount of CO2 extracted by the roasted  beans.
- A Tin Tie, which seals the bag from the top and also keeps any air from getting inside. It allows it to be reused several times.
- Heat Sealing to seal the bag on the shelves of stores before consumption, to protect the beans from any movement and air.
- Aluminium Foil lamination on the inside, which also protects from grease and preserves the beans.

Style of Bag : Side Gusseted, Flat Bottomed bag.

Typography : The font chosen for the title was designed for an Arabic typography course, inspired by the shape of the small coffee cups, called "Fenjan" in the Arab world.

Each bag has its own box with a fraction of the same design.
