The Renzo Piano Logbook

“The Renzo Piano Logbook” is three-dimensional book that can be browsed using a particular, yet not so difficult system of navigation that consists in a ruler and different shapes.

How did this project start: I was asked to take a book and visualise in a different way in order not to make it looks like a book. I chose "The Renzo Piano Logbook". It collects all the main architectural projects undertaken by the famed Italian architect, Renzo Piano, from his early works in 1966 to the most recent ones in 1996. I organised the pages in a different way in order to break the monotony of the book. Arranging the architectural works by location instead of by date could give the book a new life, completely changing the way the reader would browse through it.

How does it work? Bear with me, it is not difficult, I promise:  The ruler slides inside a hole, which corresponds to the location written nearby, and stops as it touches one of the layers underneath.

The layer that blocks the ruler is the one that contains the information of the architectural project that was built in the searched location. Therefore, to know which layer that is, you will have to read the shapes.

The first shape which sticks out from the ruler  corresponds to the one drawn on the layer.

After you will find the matching shape you will be able to open the book and go to the desired page. Since the layers are not glued together, you are allowed to do so.
