These wolves were born from my work for the Vargen and Traverse projects. The branding and posters for which can be found in the projects: ‘Traverse & Vargen Posters’ and ‘Animal Marks’ with the explanation of the thinking.
They are a way of visualising the brand and injecting energy into the otherwise lifeless corporate branding that is the face of the gap year travel company they are designed for; see ‘Traverse & Vargen Posters’ project for more details.
The two wolves are based around Fenrir the giant wolf from Nordic mythology.
Fenrir is the son of Loki and the father of two other wolves; his story is one of great importance to the mythologica universe as he will be the one to kill Odin at Ragnarök (the apocalypse) however he will then be killed by Odin’s son.
In the extended stories of Fenrir it is told that the foretelling of his great growth and murder of Odin lead to him being chained by the other gods and he bit of the hand of Tyr.
This lead into my project and that is why Fenrir in his mouth hold the green ribbon or chain; furthermore in other pictures he and another are seen biting into a book. This is to symbolise the intake of knowledge and foretelling of his destiny to kill Odin.
