THIS IS THE RESULT OF
sticking adhesive labels (containing barcodes, names, data) one after another
covering it all with them
+ 40 days of exposure to natural conditions (harsh sunlight, lots of rain and swift winds)
+ photographic registry of the process
+ uniting all the labels with duct tape
and dragging it up from the ground
so the labels turned into THIS WEIRD-LOOKING PLASTIC CLOTH
Projet's extension: intervening other places with the resulting cloth
Grand Finale: turning this into a decayed tote bag
THE CONCEPT BEHIND: Approached as an experiment, the initial project consisted in the repetition of a simple action using one single material (adhesive labels), and the photographic registry of the whole process and changes. A craft that exceeds your boundaries when Nature comes along and turns what you've done into something else. Something weirder, decayed and yet beautiful. Dealing with the apparent destruction of my own work, the results were so interesting that I became more passionate about this big plastic cloth and its possibilities, than the initial, well-planned craft.
The metaphor of the labels with names on them intends to think whether men’s actions perceived from the distance is actually no more than a cell of a bigger movement, a Being where each individual turns into a number, a bunch of letters. The result of the convergence, of collective creation. And the inevitability of its final destruction.
