Season's Greetings

Images depicted on postcards are of people who sell Christmas decorations in front of the Chinese shopping mall in Belgrade. While for the majority of people Christmas holidays represent the time to rest, to be in good spirit and celebration, for these individuals holidays are an opportunity to earn extra money. All of them are working illegally, unreported and out in the cold.

Although these postcards seem as a mere representation of festive mood,  in the form of decorations for the New Year’s Eve and Christmas, this work actually depicts deep class differences that are present in Serbian society, which are the result of high unemployment and general poverty.
According to the latest data, there are 759,590 unemployed people in Serbia, which represents 16.6% of the total population. More than 9% of the people live below the poverty, the most endangered are elderly above 65 and children.
