Jacqueline Lung's profile

Senior Degree Project

Duct tape, plastic, and steel are the mass-produced, characterless products of modernity. They are in stark contrast to the brilliant precious metals and stones that are traditionally used in jewelry and adornment. However, it is precisely the accessibility of the materials that makes them powerful communicators understood by everyone. My Senior Degree Project investigates the materiality of industrial ready-mades by taking them out of their conventional environment and placing them on the body, exploiting the grey area between the functional and non-functional. The deceiving physicality of my work disrupts the expectations of the viewers, challenging the traditional value hierarchies of jewelry in which it is measured against.
