One Percent Magazine
Another class assignment that focused on editorial layouts. This time the main assignment was creating an editorial layout for a feature. The fictional magazine's theme and title was "One Percent", originating from the quote "Genius is one percent inspiration, and ninety-nine percent perspiration". I chose Jeremy Lin's underdog story as the magazine's main feature.
The main spread echoed the theme of "percent", in that the circles and the image create an homage to the precent symbol. Circles were also used to emulate the shape of a basketball. Dotted lines weave throughout the layout to create a sense of motion and fluidity -- both of which are traits that embody Jeremy Lin's game.
The article also mentions "the most captivating strand of the Jeremy Lin mystique", and I wanted to pay tribute to those multitude of "strands" which have resonated differently in each of his fans (let them be Asians, Harvard grads, or just underdogs). Jeremy Lin is an inspiration to different people for different reasons, and I wanted to highlight the these range of dreams through the weaving dotted lines.
