Historical Art Movement Poster - Great Gatsby Party @ The Embassy
This piece is the result of a task that my graphic design class were set early this year. We were to draw inspiration from a significant art movement and produce a modern design to advertise a current event.
I selected the Art Deco movement, and created a fictitious event (Great Gatsby costume party at the Embassy theatre).
I wanted modern men and women to seamlessly picture themselves partying in the age of Art Deco, so I developed a character sporting her costume; but still maintaining trendy aspects of 2015 style (edgy makeup and tattoos, pastel hair, platform heels, etc). In contrast to my pastel heroine, I selected an antique gold sheet to print the illustration on, which shone through her belt, necklace, and her skirt exactly as I’d hoped.
