This is the storyboard for the video instruction of the Nakamura Lock airplane and the finished video. At the end of the video I used some trick photography to make it look like he threw it off the deck, but actually the never did get it to fly. We had him using another paper airplane to get that same five-year-old excitement. I would say this one is for an older boy or girl. To fly you need to throw very soft with a fick of the wrist. Paper airplanes are NOT my thing... but when you do instructional video you learn and perform for the client, not yourself.
I had to go back into my "about me" video and see just what it was that I planned on using in my masters degree. You see, what I do, no one seems to teach. What I do is "EVERYTHING" when it comes to being a creative. I had my own band at one time where I could perform, write and sing my songs, but this was no life for a "Mom." So I decided to go into ventriloquism and sing and do comedy through my puppets instead of fronting a band. When my masters class came along, I planned on doing this instructional video on making my own puppet... but it was much more than the class time limits allowed, so it became another file in my "graveyard" of talents.
Let me say that puppet making is not exactly what you might expect to see here, but when it comes to building a character, branding him and giving him life, THIS is the unltimate step. I love working with puppets and ventriloquism because I can say what I need to say or what I want to say to children to help them with their futures, bullies and yes, going to college!!!! I have been planning an instructional video of how Tylenol is a poison when mixed with alcohol, which is what killed my son... so here is the "dummy" I plan to use as my son when I travel to teach students (high school and college) about the legal poisons and over 600 drugs out there that contain legal but yet lethal acetamenophen doses. I plan to use what I have learned in Instructional design to teach them along with my dummy to help them find a reason to come to the performance. In college you have free will and you don't have to attend these semenars... so I am trying to come up with a reason for them to attend. Hearing from a dead person should help...who is actually my son... so I prefer to call him "DJ" as we travel and do "The Destin James Story." My son and I planned all of this before he passed away from Septic Poisoning in the hospital so we have a lot of videos and pictures... and I know I have his permission!
This is something I plan to use as a constant running video on a website. I need to have several live performances to put on the video. I will still continue to work freelance in my art. We will travel and I will take my work and studio with me like Jeff Dunham does. He has his studio in the back of his bus.
