B.A. in Applied Design (2006 - 2008)
WWE Poster

The brief demanded that we create an outdoor print advertisement for a program currently aired on South African television. I decided on the WWE Smackdown show, broadcasted daily at 20:30. Since the WWE “brand is about stories” and these “stories are about the hero’s, the villains, the drama, the climax, the conflict, the moral” I wanted to design a two-dimensional piece that communicated the rich stories found in the WWE universe.

I proceeded to illustrate a large-scale vector piece that would be fixed to bus shelters and train stations near schools. The range of detail found within the poster facilitates this experience of storytelling, much like the Where’s Wally? series by Martin Handford, and provides the children with an engaging activity while waiting for the bus or train on their way home.
The Space Trilogy Book Series

The series is based on three C.S. Lewis books, Out of the Silent Plant (1938), Perelandra (1943) and That Hideous Strength (1945). Each book follows the adventures of a philologist named Elwin Ransom on three different planets: Mars, Venus and Earth. The location of each book is accentuated within the design by a protruding circle on the spine (accomplished by a semi-circle die cut in each cover) and rendered in the colour of the corresponding planet
Horrorfest Poster

A Series of posters and flyers indicating the degree of the movies showing at the Festival, by suggesting that they will have an effect on your sleeping pattern, through showing three hypothetical rooms of people who attended the festival. Firstly a room filled with lights, secondly a closet which has been barged closed and thirdly a bed with sawn of legs. Replacing the typical horror poster design with a more contemporary one, while style keeping the essence of the festival.
Sock Packaging Design

Attaching two contrasting personalities to the pair of socks packaged and treating them as art toys or plushies,
while still making them usable. Both personalities are enforced by the colours, illustrations, visual style and a
containing limerick. The first is Sharp Sharp, which is an up-and-coming kwaito star, and the second is Plain
Jane, which is a nerdy school girl. The first sock has a design which is applied via vinyl, in yellow, onto it and the
second sock has a design embroidered onto it in cyan.
As Cities Burn CD Cover

Drawing the concept from a song on the CD which uses radio contact as a metaphor For losing contact due to life’s distractions. This is represented visually by making. Reference to television or computer distortion from interference and other forms of Communication. The packaging also refer to an old video cassette, since they begin to distort after a certain time period.
'Untitled' Magazine

A Creative Writing magazine aimed at a younger more alternative target market, featuring. Non-mainstream and unknown writers; thus giving a platform for a new contemporary context of creative writing and distancing itself away from the image of traditional literature, while still celebrating the creative process of writing. The current issue’s concept revolves around the creative process of writing and is conveyed by the interaction between the cover and introductory page in the magazine.
