Matheus Couto is an authoral fashion brand emerging from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Matheus, the stylist, designs based on the model of slow fashion, and is inspired by japanese designers and genderless fashion. He asked me to design a logo for him that would represent the fluidity of his personality - as he intends to dedicate himself to projects in different areas - and that also looked clean and minimalist, such as his own creations.
So I came up with an Identity that has two parts:
- A typographic logo stating his name in very sleek and intersecting lines
- Eight handmade patterns using Suminagashi techniques
I used only black and white to build his identity, in a reference to his own minimalistic approach to life and art. I found in Suminagashi a way to represent fluidity and the inspiration he takes from japanese culture, and also the process of creating the pattern was very fun and taught me a lot about adapting materials and substracts to our possibilities.
