My 4-Icon Challenge: Moby-Dick (or The Whale)

This is my work for the 4-Icon Challenge, the second week assignment of "Adobe Generation Professional: Graphics & Illustration" course.

I divided this assignment into 4 parts:
- think about a famous story or film that can be reduced to 4 icons
- decide what the 4 icons would be
- design the 4 icons
- write a reflection

The first part seemed the most interesting, as there are lots of famous stories or movies. Among many books read by me when I was a child, I particularly liked that one which started with the sentence "Call me Ishmael.", that is one of the most famous opening sentences of the whole world literature.

This novel written by Herman Melville is considered a magnificent work of Romanticism and the American Renaissance.

So, I thought my four icons would be: a whale, a captain's hat with an anchor on it, a harpoon and an old ship.

Even if the whale chased by the captain Ahab was a white one, I decided to make it with a bluish texture, like it would have been seen swimming in the deep water (that was in my imagination, of course).

Instead of letting the peers guess what story or movie I chose, I considered it easy for anyone (because there aren't many stories about whales), so I wrote its title myself.

I particularly liked this assignment, because we had to choose from lots of options and also use our brains and imagination.
