Skeletons in the Closet

“Skeletons in the Closet” was a marketing campaign to help gather literary works from the student body for the 17th volume of Shades of Gray, the official literary folio of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

The theme for the 17th volume of the folio is “Skeletons in the Closet”—a collection of literary works about one’s secrets and ghosts. Together with Katsy, the literary editor, we wanted the campaign to provoke the minds and to invite the student body to share their stories and poems.

We used “one-line stories” to capture the attention of the students. Glitches, motion blur, scribbles, a notepad window, and a mosaic filter were used to censor the faces of the models, somewhat signifying the disturbance between their façade and their inner demons.

We wanted the video to be creepy and cryptic, so I included footages of VHS noise and the sound of a radio receiver in the final cut of the film. We also included a backmasked audio (fun fact: Katsy was the voiceover) on the background. We revealed a reversed video in the folio and had the readers listen to the backmasked audio as part of the interactive feature of the folio.
The promotional video was awarded an Award of Merit in the Audiovisual category
by the Philippine Student Quill Awards in 2014.
