Szpilka - quality streetfood

Szpilka is a slow-food restaurant which serves food from all over the world. It's located in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.

Challenge

I have been asked to create brand identity for a new restaurant in Bielsko-Biała. The project also involved designing a line of jobbing printing (including menu, pads, postcards) and creating a design direction. The challenge was to achieve a fresh look and feel which would correspond with the sophisticated interior and despite the whole exclusivity of the place, would give a feeling of accessibility. The slow-food restaurant segment needed a place which would offer premium quality. This is the assumption I took while designing the brand.

Solution & Outcomes

In the holistic experience of a conscious, young customer (the target group) every single detail counts. Being aware of that, I paid great attention while designing all the details. I designed a recognizable brand with a logo that combines elegant lettering and a burger pin. This way the raw look was softened, and it was all complemented with three pastel colours and a geometrical sans serif font. These rules became foundation for future works. The new place quickly became popular and the guests loved the characteristic branding.

The industrial character of the restaurant has been achieved with the use of original bricks and raw concrete. Copper details give the place a warm look. The tables have been made from wood from old railway wagons. There was no other way but to reflect the original decor in the brand identity of the restaurant so that they would both correspond. Integrity was the key.
