This project was developed in the Model Making class of the Product Design program at Parsons The New School For Design. The goal was to design a perfume bottle and develop a model using mold making and casting techniques. The challenge rests in reproducing with precison the design created digitally.
Started with a bottle, now I'm here. Different versions of the final design.
Some preferred to 3D print their design, but since my shape was fairly simple I went to the lathe to get a smooth finish. I used Ren Shape to make the model, which is a modeling board excellent to work with this kind of application. You can also use it in a CNC router to get complex details.
 
What is great about this material is that you can get very smooth surfaces using sandpaper, a lot of different grit sandpaper. And since I'm turning the material it becomes much easier to sand it down, just got to hold the sandpaper in the right spot.
 
 
I've used Smooth On products to make the silicon mold and to cast the polyurethane resin, adding some tint to change its color. After that, I've used a plastic polisher to get the surface shiny, like a diamond.
 
Kenzo is a brand founded by japanese designer Kenzo Takada. Each design from the perfume collection is very expressive in a simple way, using the form as the major feature to give personality to each fragance. This is a student project, any association with the brand Kenzo is only for study reasons.
