“What is graphic design, actually?”

The question is what underlines the making of this publication. It certainly not intend to convey the standard definition of graphic design as it has been written in books or internet, but a more personal meaning from the people in the field. Understanding that graphic design itself is basically related to human perception, perhaps a perceptive meaning will be an interesting approach to understand the graphic design itself.

Perspektif: 19 Desainer Grafis Muda Indonesia (19 Young Indonesian Graphic Designer) is a publication created as a final project to get my bachelor degree back in 2013. As the title suggested, the publication features 19 young graphic designers sharing their thoughts and perspectives about graphic design especially in Indonesia.

19 designers = 19 perspectives

In this project, The role of text and graphic are balanced in delivering information. The publication was designed into loose, 19 stand-alone pamphlet represents each profiles featured. As for the pamphlet cover, I placed my personal interpretation of their answer on “What is your wildest dream?” — a question which sounds absurd yet in some way reflecting how they think.

In 2014, Perspektif was published DGI Press and currently available at bookstores in Jakarta: Aksara, Basheer, Gunung Agung, and Kinokuniya.
