My Master of Art Degree project.
Fortress Krakow is one of the biggest group of fortifications in 19th century Europe. The city was then on the border of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Franz Joseph decided to build there a fortress, as Krakow was the first point of defense of Vienna against the Russians. It grew to enormous size. It became a hidden city within a city, which could accommodate over 60 thousand. soldiers. It included not only defensive buildings but also the barracks, warehouses, bakeries, turnpikes, officers' casinos... Everything was connected by roads, hidden from the eyes of the enemy in parks and forrests. Fortress Krakow existed, grew and functioned almost 100 years and contributed to the fact that Krakow has survived almost intact the most difficult times in polish history. Despite this, today the Fortress is forgotten and neglected. A handful of enthusiasts willing to preserve it for future generations, not only as a historical monument, but also a unique pearl of defensive architecture, faces many problems caused by, among others, the ignorance of other people and its consequences.
Last year we celebrated a 100th anniversary of the Battle of Krakow, won with the Russians thanks to the Fortress. It's high time to fight for Fortess and its existence. I decided that a responsive website - a virtual business card for Cracow Fortress, is the best solution. Its sconsists of 6 main parts - the history, buildings' search, an interactive map, news and archive photos. Each building has its own site with the photographs of my authorship, a detailed description and the tourist information. The website is programmed in the demo version (the number of objects is incomplete). It has numerous animations of navigation and it adapts to different screen sizes.
