Project Design Development - Torch for Manufacture

This assignment was tasked within the module Project Design Development and required the development of a concept for a handheld torch to manufacture.

This was a group assignment and required the use of CAD which I focused on developing, materials analysis and engineering design to develop a concept which is suitable for production.

This assignment developed engineering design skills and the ability to work well witihin a group.
These are the parts that were developed to create the assembly of the torch, made up of 9 components including the screws.

As a securing feature the main components for the torch's body have similar to a tenon joint where each component slots into each other securely.
We undertook CAD analysis to examine and improve on certain aspects of the design.

We analysed part fill time, areas for sink marks and ease of manufacture with regards to potential areas which could need slide cores.

We also analysed where the sprue would be for each part for as it would be injection moulded, as well as ejection marks on the part.
This shows the concept before we developed it further to design for manufacture.
This shows the concept after developed for design for manufacture with consideration to ergonomics, materials and how it would be manufactured.
