Florence is the birth place of the Renaissance (a cultural movement perhaps best known for it's artistic developments and revolutions in intellectual pursuits). During this period, Florence was then the cultural epicenter for Italian art, launching the careers of many prominent artists. Innovations in print documents (books!), allowed for the wide distribution of the philosophies of several humanists. This attracted artists, philosophers and all men of the arts to Florence, making it a haven for the free exchange of ideas. With the patronage of the Medici family, the arts flourished in Florence. With an art revolution came a similar wave in fashion - an extension of art. A flourishing art scene, attracted innovators in other areas, such as textile trade and leather. However, this city which was at one time a breeding ground for change and innovation now remains stuck in the past, and in some ways even putrid. The focus is the past, packaged in a box and sold for fast and easy consumption. The most important aspects of the past of Florence are not it's structures, sculptures or gardens - but it's values of creativity, innovation and constant brimming of change. These are the elements of Florence that need to be revitalized, and fused with new values to create a Florence which is an incubator for creativity with a constant flow of activity, a place where talents across the areas of art, fashion and literature are merged. The focus will no longer be on the old structures that stand, but instead on ever changing forms of art, fashion and more - popping up all over the city at various times, making Florence THE city to come to as food for the creative soul.
