DUCIAMARA | cioccolato artigianale di Modica

Chocolate of Modica (ciucculatta muricana in the local dialect) has been produced in Sicily since the 16th century. At that time the island was ruled by the Spaniards, who imported cocoa beans from the Americas.

What makes this type of chocolate so unique is the way it is produced, which makes it somehow similar to the ancient Mayan and Aztec recipes. Its most recognizable features are the grainy texture and the patina of cocoa butter on the surface.

Duciamara ("bitter sweet") is a new brand of handmade chocolate produced in Modica.
