Wooden Audio Sequencer

Wooden Sequencer - a table that plays sound.

During the Physical Computing and Creative Coding course at School of Form the only keyword to our project was
“the aesthetics of interaction”. With help of our lecturers - Wiesław Bartkowski and Krzysztof Goliński we decided to rethink about typical button-like interface of audio sequencer and design unique tangible interface for it.

Making of...

To create the table we used CNC router and bench drill machine available at our university. After that, we placed sensors in each hole and connected them to Arduino device. With 32 sensors it was a lot of cables to connect.
How does it work?

This is nothing less and nothing more than regular audio sequencer. The columns represent the timeline and lines are for instrument played. The interaction with device is unique and more natural thanks to wooden discs. There are IR reflective sensors in each hole. They read the color at the bottom of discs so the sequencer can play more then one variant of sound.
