Purity Ring are a Canadian electronic music duo from Edmonton, Alberta formed in 2010. The band consists of Megan James (vocals) and Corin Roddick (instrumentals). Their music is a hypnotic fusion of pop and hip hop, with fantasy-like lyrics that often describe relationships between the human body and nature. The name “Purity Ring” was chosen because they liked how the words sounded together—it’s not meant as a reference to religion or innocence.
They are one of my favorite artists, and I chose to rebrand them for my Graphic Design Senior Show. I let their music influence what I created, using colorful and hypnotic textures with geometric and hand drawn typography. Cheerful pink patterns at first glance give way to abstracted blood cells, spiky icicles, and lyrics that tell of a dark fantasy world.
I chose Priori Sans for the logotype and modified a few of the characters. It is clean and streamlined, with little details (like the curled leg of the "R") that make it feel friendlier.
