This was a self-initiated experimental project. The project aimed at designing a chair for café and retail stores. The design of the chair was largely inspired by candyfloss. Transforming the personas of Candyfloss into a piece of furniture was the overall intention behind the design.
The form of the chair had two main determinants. Firstly the form was restricted to the materials and joinery and secondly the design had to be stackable. The form was designed considering the above aspects and adapting the essence of candyfloss. The soft and playful nature of candyfloss was incorporated to give the structure overall essence.
Pinewood was lathed and transformed into a cylinder to be inserted in the ABS plastic mould. To fix the structure, dowels were used to make the structure strong and sturdy. MDF with PU coat paint was used for the seat and back.
Upto 5 chairs can be conveniently stacked which gives a very pleasant colour rush.
Colours were selected considering the playfulness of the design. Using pastels also makes the furniture open to multiple surroundings and also embodies the essence of its concept.
