How can we teach kids dangers at home?
Tackeling this question we designed the iPad game Panda en Peligro, inspired conceptually and visually by the old German stories of Struwwelpeter from 1845.The stories are centred around a bunch of kids, never listening to their parents' advices and thereby getting hurt badly. This concept of learning by comitting mistakes, experiencing the consequences and repeating the action became our guide with designing the whole game.
In a little red panda village, where parents are absent, you are visiting your friends — just to find they are about to get hurt! Jump into action to save them, interacting with the house's objects and your friends. Win yummy bamboo sticks you can trade for special tools or use them to unblock hidden content!
In the menu you can discover the panda village and all it's 10 houses (levels) or visit ol' Grumpo to trade your bamboo sticks.
Every level starts with an introductory video sequence showing an action. When the game starts you will notice the action's consequences and try to help. At the end of every level there's another sequence showing the outcome, depending on the actions you took while playing. Here the sequences are represented by screens with speech bubbles.

Level 1
Save your burning friend by throwing water bombs. Be quick! He will set fire to all the furniture!
You can refill your baloons by using the water tap.
Level 2
The little panda slipped and is now being electrified! You gotta break the circuit of the house to save him!
Move the button towards the indicated direction and try to solve the puzzles.
LEVEL 3
The door smashed your friend's finger! He can't get out. Free him by finding the key in his house. Search for clues, examine objects and discover the mysteries of the panda houses!

Your greedy friend couldn't help but trying to get the cookies from the shelf! Now everything collapsed over him. Help him by combining the objects you can find to lift the heavy shelf!

Panda is running around! He didn't see the shelf comming and ran right into it. Protect him by shooting all the things that are falling down on him! Get the first aid kid to treat his wounds.
