Illustrations for Starbucks' blog on coffee. 
The first rough thumbnail sketches
When the client had approved the motive on these, I made larger, more detailed drawings.
 
When the drawing is finished (on aquarelle paper), i paint layers of watercolour.
 

In the last steps of the illustrations i do some colour-adjustments, and clean up the background in photoshop.
I like the personality and texture that traditional techniques provide. Digital illustrations often have a polished, flat look, but on the positive note, more vibrant colours. Mixing those two is what I like best.




 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The illustrations are meant to illustrate the different steps of making coffe, from plant to café.

Theese illustrations were used on Starbucks' blog/website in 2015, unfortunately they are now replaced by new content.
