TypoDay Poster Competition: Education is Relative

Poster designed for the TypoDay 2016 design competition. The work is based on the concept of differing perceptions by students of identical material within the educational system that come about through many variables including peer influence and quality of instructors and facilities. I arranged the characters of the phrase “education is relative” as typographic objects in a loose modular grid to reference an orderly system while simultaneously breaking it by altering scale, perspective, rendition and proportions to show the inconsistencies of information perceived.  Graphically, I aimed to guide the eye through paths of characters with like-alterations while still maintaining an overall unity and rhythm through the loose grid and achromatism. Finally I added thinly ruled rectangles to act as practical hyphens, contrasting graphic elements and conceptual tools to reference arbitrary measurement practiced in our educational system.
