A water-themed event intended to benefit a local charity
This project was part of a social awareness class at the Savannah College of Art and Design during summer 2011. The concept and design were developed in a group of 7 students, in which each student had specific responsibilities.
The Savannah H2Olympics were a a one-day celebration featuring water-themed events that sought to unite the community and raise funds and awareness for a local charity in Savannah, GA.
H2Olympics consisted of one main event and five simultaneous circuit games, with carnival snacks and beverages as well as music. The main event featured a giant Slip ‘n Slide designed to meet the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled in one hour. An application to break this record was submitted to Guinness World Record LTD. The circuit games included a water volleyball toss — played with two sheets used to toss water balloons over a volleyball net —, a water gun shooting range, a water bucket relay race, and a water balloon dodge ball. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to throw dye-filled water balloons at t-shirts to create unique and memorable art pieces.
The event was promoted with posters and flyers, as well as through local newspapers, radio and TV stations.
My contribution to the project consisted of the development of the event concept, the coordination between the project group and the local charity partner, and the promotion of the event. Additionally, I was involved in the development process of the design of the event identity and ephemera.
