Better Health through Design

As part of the DHW Lab, a study into design & health in Starship Children's Hospital has been conducted through on-going activities in 2015. There was an aim to capture impressions and experience for both parents and their children in the Outpatient department, especially focusing on the 5 senses within the environment. The designs featured below endeavoured to support the study's various engagements with users.
Collateral produced are a survey, posters, information sheets, invitations, and a children's drawing booklet. Each is to engage, inform and present a united front as each is utilised at different times throughout the year.

Due to the large amount of visual noise and colour within the children's hospital, a simple black and white palette is used. To soften this, suggestive line illustrations and a hand-written typeface are employed.

The hand-written header typeface is Frizzell by Joe Mitchell, based on New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell's iconic handwriting.
