Sculptural Models Examples of three-dimensional design
Scale models created with paper and illustration board for public monuments, sculptures, and packaging design.
“Large Sculptural Clock” 14” X 6” X 7” Paper model with scale elements, 1994. Maquette for a proposed large public sculpture. Small triangle at the top revolves around an axis to indicate time of day.
“Seahorse” 11” X 9” X 5” Paper model, 1994. Emphasis on negative space with flowing shape, presenting an abstraction of its biological inspiration. Design was later recreated as a larger acrylic (Plexiglas) sculpture. The challenge in executing this model was keeping the curves smooth and the fact that the model itself is hollow.
“Negative Space Study” 5” X 1.5” X 3” Paper models, 1994. Studies in positive and negative space. Arrow cutout in the evolution on the left creates interest and motion. Possible packaging design.
