After investigating the regimented, structured and perfect idea of the future, I am now exploring futuristic apocalypses. My main inspiration is the television program called 'The Walking Dead' about a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. I like that there are such diverse views on what the future could be like; empty and robotic or destructive and ruined.
I did an extremely fun photoshoot where I transformed someone into a zombie through make-up and in Photoshop with images of wounds from the internet.
For my next photoshoot I altered the make-up to make the images appear more realistic. Instead of needing to use Photoshop to layer wounds on the model's skin, my friend created wounds on the model's skin using liquid latex, cotton wool, face paint and eyeshadow. I then captured images of my model in a new location; an old railway track. I chose this location because the area is run down so it appears apocalyptic.
The image below is my favourite because the model appears 3D as she reaches out of the picture plane towards the viewer. I have created this effect by blurring the background that surrounds the model using 'guassian blur' and 'lens blur' in Photoshop.
I developed my idea to capture images of multiple zombies. I firstly experimented with location and camera angles to see what would be best to capture the creepy atmosphere, as well as lighting to reflect the grimy and dark environment. I used outdoor lighting to illuminate the figures, standing by a tree in a desolate lanscape or against a fence.
