Free Association in Helvetica

I like to record things, probably because I'm afraid I'll forget them. I've been keeping tiny notebooks and thought books for years now. I keep wish lists, bucket lists, music tablature, truisms and maxims, advice that others have given me, set lists from when I used to play in a band. These notebooks ended up providing me snapshots of my mind at particular times, the things I was interested in and doing, and preceeded things I would end up doing.

I was also a psychology student. Free Association of ideas was important to Freud in uncovering...um...ya know...things. In a highly freely associative moment, I felt the need to practice my typography skills. (I probably watched the Helvetica documentary somewhere in proximity to the first Free Association I made.) The result is one of my favorite works, providing a cross-section of the ideas swimming around in my mind.

Some years passed and I felt my typography skills had improved as well. I had more entries in my notebooks, new influences in my life, and I also had access to a large printer at my college. I felt compelled to take another stab at my Free Assocation:
